Scalo Farini

Placed in a historic and abandoned train station, (Un)Touched is a project to transform a historic, abandoned train station in Milan into a public park.

Parts of the station will be carefully preserved to highlight its past, while other areas will be redesigned for public use—offering green spaces, walkways, and places to gather. The project blends history with renewal to bring new meaning to a forgotten place.

Scalo Farini holds a quiet but important role in Milan. With its central location, it has the potential to connect the north and south sides of the city. This project aims to create more than just a park — it will be a lively place where people can come together, take part in different activities, and experience the city in a new way.

Project Goals

  • Staying faithful to Genius Loci - the unique spirit of the place.

  • Designing a balanced and cohesive plan for a large site.

  • Finding shared activities that connect different communities.

  • Creating an interactive, evolving space that responds over time.

Space Analysis

Starting from the conceptual idea of the hand as the strategy for connecting the two sides of the city, the analysis was aimed to use palm lines as main axes of the project. Moreover, the three different meanings of these lines led to the definition of experimental paths guiding people throughout different activities along the way.

Ideation

Inspiration

Our first focus is designing six interior spaces that offer new activities. These are inspired by the site's history, its industrial feel and the emotional impact of trains.

Our second focus is designing six activity spaces using triangle shapes, inspired by the building’s roof. These spaces connect to pathways that guide people through the structure.

My Role

I was inspired by the shifting views from a train window. This led me to design “The Train Effect” and parallel structures that create a similar experience. These are placed on the old railroads as a tribute to the former train station.

Next, my teammates and I visited the old Scalo Farini station for field research. We brainstormed ideas for activities and inspiration. My role was mainly creating the 2D and 3D visuals for the final presentation.
